Richard Phillips is known for employing glossy imagery of models and stock characters from commercial imagery to produce forms of pop erotica. Creating works of appealing estrangement using hyperrealistic drawing and painting techniques, the artist depicts models that are over-perfected to an alienating degree. In this lithographic print, a beautiful young woman’s face is framed by tousled hair that whips dramatically around her face in shiny strands, suggesting pure artifice. The technical, academic nature of the image conveys the precise architecture of its fantasy image.
